I hate it when 3rd-party npm package updates break my whole build process. This is one of the disadvantages of the #JAMstack. This happens 2 or 3 times a year at least.

Despite a persistent legend, the Chromium web browser is strongly tight with many Google services, and thus is *NOT* ungoogled.
In /e/OS we are using a fully ungoogled Chromium web browser.
On Linux, Mac and Windows, you can use "ungoogled- chromium":

If you’re not in my particular niche communities, you might not know about the community that exists around old ThinkPad laptops. But I’m going to tell you about it, because I think it’s awesome!
ThinkPad laptops from years ago are enduringly popular, because they have great support from free software, and they’re extremely repairable.
Not only are new or used parts extremely easy to come by, people are even designing new parts for these old machines, so you can upgrade rather than replace!
It's been 6-7 years since I made my last #Wordpess theme. Looks like not much happened since then in terms of features and architecture (except the #Gutenberg editor). It's still crappy frontend code.
And this is why the FOSS ecosystem fails in many ways compared to the commercial players. It focuses too much on devs. There are nearly no FOSS architects, FOSS UX engineers or FOSS marketing guys.
So what's the point in 'cloning' platforms? As if the architecture of the commercial ones were perfect. Let's think over time lines for example. Or new ways of discovering like-minded people. Where are discussions about these topics in the FOSS world?
It's not about copying the technology and the features one by one from the commercial gatekeepers, it's about going new ways to give users tools to build their own special bubbles with people who share the same values.
Architecture is about making spaces comfortable for humans. Social web arcitecture fails this point miserably. We don't only need FOSS developers, we also need FOSS architects who design better systems and platforms.
You know what I don't like with all social media platforms? Be it Facebook, Insta, Twitter or Mastodon and other #indieweb platforms. It's all a popularity contest. It depends more on what people *like*, not on what's good (these both are not necesarily the same). There is no good social media without the right people.
Which brings me to the next point. (thread)
I don't believe, it's only because of the default search engine deal. There must be more to it. Regarding their image of being #FOSS und independent from monopols, this seems quite hypocritical to me.
