So I have to select all the languages I don't understand to filter them from my feed? Wouldn't opting in to specific languages be an easier filtering UI?

@Alisca Hm, I agree. Are the filters supposed to apply to followed users in addition to local/federated timelines?

@lackaff that would be odd, filtering out people you follow by language.

I had heard a rumour *looks around, all shifty-like* a rumour that the problem is that those accounts on the fed TL havent specified a language in their account, defeating the filter.

@Alisca Ha, OK, if it is account-based filter, rather than a message-based filter, that's a different issue. The "followed-user filtering" use case I was thinking about was following a multilingual user, and only displaying messages in specified languages.

@lackaff maybe Instance-level? Aren't these messages from any other instance that has a follower on Social? My brain hasnt Arrived yet with how the Federated TL works.

@Alisca Excuse me, but I can't filter the language I don't understand like Japanese on the fed TL, either. What do you mean, haven't specified a language in their account? can I do that?

@arrow

Hi!

Good point - I had a look at my profile settings too and I can't find it. It might be at the Instance level, not the Profile level?

I bet there's a team of people looking into it right now. *crickets*

@Alisca @arrow

There's an open issue about this in the github (github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/), we can only hope a solution is on the way!

@Alisca yeah, I also checked the language setting. It just didn't work.

Guess so. lol

@arrow also, checking OFF the languages which you DONT wanna see is a little mind-fuck way to configure it.
