I like pork pies, but I can't find any in the shops here in Poland, so I learned how to make them. These are actually ham, turkey and bacon pies, with home-made cucumber relish. Perfect with a cold beer in the afternoon . . .

Eight small ham, turkey and bacon pies made with hot water pastry, arranged in two rows on a baking tray. The pastry is a golden brown color, with fluted edges. Some gravy has leaked out of the holes in the top of a couple of the pies. The holes in the pastry crust are used for injecting gelatin into the pies after they are baked, which seals the meat filling and keeps the pies fresh for longer. Behind the baking tray, on the table, is a small plate with one of the pies cut open to show the filling. Also on the plate is a large dollop of home-made cucumber relish. Also on the plate is a teaspoon (for the relish) and a red-handled steak knife (for cutting the pie). Beside the plate is a small jar of onion and cucumber relish with a green hand-written label showing it was made in August 2023. The relish was made from cucumbers grown in our garden.
