@Andy_P two 10 week old spicy kittens (feral) may show up here this afternoon, if they can catch them.
Then we’ll see if we can trick them into loving the house cat lifestyle. It’ll take many weeks of bribery and snuggles.
@Andy_P The rescued kittens have arrived. They’re not quite as wild (spicy) as some feral kittens, so hopefully they won’t be too hard to tame. Turkey flavored baby food, human baby food, usually does the trick. But tonight they get to just chill in their new space.
@Andy_P the bribery continues. They only get fed by hand or with humans nearby, to build positive associations
@Andy_P Day 6: while the kittens were chasing a string toy Dimitri jumped in and they loved all over him. I even snuck in a couple of pets while they were distracted.
The kittens’ names are now Saru and Siranna because they’re a pair of scaredy-cats #StarTrekDiscovery
@Andy_P It’s been exactly 1 week with the feral kittens. Through lots of socialization several times a day they’re now pretty used to us and relaxed, but still don’t like being touched.
@Andy_P Week 1.5: The feral kittens are now in a new room all their own. The master bathroom. They’re still very skittish, but love to play and will put up with brief pets when distracted
@Andy_P Week 2.1: I got to pet the spicy babies! Granted they were licking turkey flavored baby food off my fingers, but full pets! Head scratches even. They’re still scared of hands coming at them but sneak attack pets are ok
@Andy_P Week 2.2: Dimitri broke the spicy babies out of kitten jail. Again. Naughty cat!
They were having so much fun we could hear their pitter patter of running feet in the next room. But we have some picking up to do before they’re free to roam
@Andy_P they have discovered the kitty climbing wall of doom. Dimitri has a reputation of falling off
@Andy_P Week 2.3: Saru decided to join us for a brief siesta while playing with the foot monster under the blanket.
@Andy_P It’s gross but chicken or turkey flavored gerber baby food in a syringe is one trick to domesticate spicy kittens. They put up with physical contact and associate it with good feelings
@Andy_P 1 Month: A pretty boy. Sometimes Saru remembers that he’s wild and wild kittens don’t like pets. But he mostly likes pets now. We’re still working on picking him up.
@Andy_P 1 month: this $10 cat tube is the best. Cats go in. Spaz beasts come out. This is Dimitri, our foster cat dad.
@Andy_P Week 5: “Don’t talk to me or my big boyfriend” Saru adores Dimitri and follows him everywhere. Tillie likes pets but not snuggles.
"Father?"
"Yes, Child?"
"I want to kill you, Father."
"Yes, Child."
"But first-- more delicious bird-in-a-tube and make it quick!!"
"Yes, Child."
@xenophora “bird in a tube” 😂
But so true
Yeah, I could've sworn that one of the human servants on the Flatbush Cats channel used that very term, but I may be getting channels confused.
@Andy_P Week 3: spicy kittens are now very mild. They still avoid human hands if they see it coming but aren’t scared of us and otherwise love the act of getting petted once they’re tricked into it
