If this is vague, it's deliberately.
Just read a thread regarding how stuff gets built on the #Fediverse. And how SOME people feel is a reasonable reaction to address at the people building it.
Folks, if you're programming ANYTHING for the Fediverse, can I just say thanks?
Thanks.
Because I'd no idea of the scale of the heavyweight ingrates you good people have judging and yelling at you for your efforts.
You guys deserve better than internet drama.
👍 Thumbs up.
👌 Excellent work.

Fake news and the general distrust of media today, summed up in 1 sentence:
If anyone sticks a banana on a perch in a bird cage, it's journalism that gets to decide whether it's a canary or not, AND how well it is singing too.
#ck2 It's over.
Final score for House Alyattes, in 1453AD: 367,676
And a twist. CK2 is as unsure of when I started as I am. Early I wrote about screwing up my start date (hence going for the wrong achievement). Yet, I unlocked Legendary Survivor AND Seven Centuries.
NO COMPLAINTS.
I'd a helpful ref image as a laptop border for what feels like FOREVER, so I'm going to change it to this now.
Considering I hadn't originally planned on even forming Rome I'm happy to get BOTH of the Roman Empire achievements.
It'll be good to finish the run. Year is 1411, with enddate in 1453. So 42 years on the clock.
Next cheevos:
Medina (Protector of Holy Places achievement)
Legendary Survivor (play to 1453)
Maybe:
Wise Guy
Let's Play (focus achievements)
Because I can:
The fall of the house of Karl
(Kill the last of the Karlings)
CK2>EU4 save export
SPQR achievement unlocked (restore the Roman Empire's borders).
More than once it looked like I'd ROYALLY screwed the run (giving Constantinople away a Greek kingdom vice-royalty, putting Rome under a theocracy, and under 2 layers of merchant republic and then taking that barony as my only landed title, one giant uncalculated revolt caused by overconfidence in retracting a vassal).
The ending was anti-climatic, with going through the ledger's 1 title minors to find 2 enclave baronies.
'Harsh rules, enforced equally' Idea (not especially bad or good).
"Users will be banned. Without exception. The time of banning is known in advance. Appreciated contributions add a delay."
Precedent: everybody dies. Everybody will accept it. But good choices can make it less of an impending threat.
And nobody can use 'fairness' as a counterargument, because nobody goes into this expecting fairness.
So, I say base #netiquette on #DEATH
2/2)
Bad idea: Writing a guide not to be obnoxious on social media (people who'd benefit from it either are in denial or will resist change).
Less bad idea: Writing how to be obnoxious on the internet. With actual examples. Acknowledge the scope of advantages. Contrast it with the bad, and loss of options. Note: still a bad idea (because now you've guileless chodes who'll call you a troll because satire and subtext in your words objectively cannot exist until they say so).

I have no TV for a long time and I also stopped consuming news (apart from tech). News are just bullshit. Now I realize how depressing and useless all this information is most people stuff into their brains daily. Confront me with news on the radio now and I almost freak out because I feel it's so disgusting. 🤨
How to not be excited about #E3: A badly needed tutorial.
1). Watch #E3 from 2016.
Count the number of games that haven't released.
Or, to be frank, bombed.
You now have a baseline for how much BS & hype is shovelled out at #E3
2). Watch 2015's. Just count stuff that hasn't appeared. Internalise that games won't ship after THREE YEARS. Yet people annually make excited fools of themselves.
3). Start looking for follow-up interviews for all the broken promises.
Realise: *it doesn't happen.*
@RemindMe in 5 minutes to clear my desk.
If you're too poor for A/C, here's what I did when I was also too poor for A/C. Copper tubing attached to fan with zip ties. Plastic tubing attached to fishtank pump, submerged in beer cooler full of ice water. Cold water runs through the pipes and makes 'em frostycold, fan blows frostycold at hot people. Works pretty well! Lots of guides online on how to make one. Put a towel on the floor in front of it, lots of condensation.
Plot twist.
This has just gotten stranger.
...The book I ordered - the correct one - DID arrive. I have it in my hand.
This is something else they sent me?
Whatever. In practical terms it is already in the charity shop.
Screw it.
I'll drop this book off at a charity shop.
Chasing a refund and organising a return on this isn't worth my time, this is a loss of about €4 including international shopping, and I don't hold out hope that after a 2 month delivery month time the refund & return process will run like a well oiled machine.
Trying to fix this is too much like the sunk cost fallacy applied to time.
If I need to pick up a copy quick I will get it on Kindle.
So, 2 months ago I ordered several books from several sites.
I was busy enough that I didn't keep a record of it, and archived the emails for the order without reading them.None of these books were vitally urgent, intro reference stuff I expected I'd need.
I didn't notice one didn't show up. Today, an envelope showed up. A big envelope. I open it.
Inside? Not the book I ordered.
And an order form confirming the name of the actual, much smaller, book I ordered, which was not delivered.
My fellow #shitposters.
Let us speak plainly.
Have we not all seen it?
Is this now our destiny, for the #shitpost hashtag?
Or like Icarus, do we risk our destruction in overreaching, like Prometheus do we risk the wrath of the gods?
Clearly ours is the will, but is it our destiny?
Do we act, of one accord?
Dare we all, with one voice, together sing in harmony the hashtag that ends the era of the highbrows on the divine fediverse forever?
(steeples fingers like Gendo)
Unchecked insincerity drowns the soul.
Sleep is important.
@Barcode If you just want to get your feet wet with cryptocurrency without risking any standard currency, you can always get funds on a test network. It's completely free and functions completely identically to the real thing. Here's the Ethereum Rinkeby test network, for instance: https://www.rinkeby.io/#faucet
