Hey, I'm back. How is everyone? It's been a while :)

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog... like every single time.

Why am I registering all of these weird domain names?

Because ICANN.

Has anyone noticed that L&Ds response to rapid change and the need for agility in workplaces today is in creating video vignettes, mini-courses & microlearning? Smaller/faster formal learning. Sigh. It's not going to cut it. Sorry. Nope.

Hi everyone! I made a translator bot that translates statuses it's mentioned in.

To use it, mention @translator (translator@toot.works) in your status, followed by the two-letter code for the language you want to translate to (e.g. "ja" for Japanese) (full list of possible codes here: christopher.su/projects/transl). It uses English if no language is given.

Give it a try and toot me your suggestions and comments!

@translator ja

I don't take myself too seriously. And this extends to you as well. :)

What's up everyone. Away a bit on vacation and off the socials some. Anything new here on dot Social?

I saw a bat today. Do I win?

Biggest idea that's been twisted, mangled, and perverted. And the winner is "Community"!!

@karelbrits too bad that you have the wrong spelling of our last name 😜

Another plus. People here on Mastodon are generally funnier than those on Twitter.

I just developed Mastodon Stats, a site that shows the statistics of all instances mastodon gathered in real time. Have a look at mastodonstat.herokuapp.com

Mastodon feels like what social media should have always been. I can remember how cool it was to learn about other people and other cultures as a youngster listening to #shortwave radio. . .The "bird site" & "ad-book" were never like that. It was always a bunch of angry people posting pictures of angry things, arguing how awful everyone else is. No real exchange of culture & no real learning about others. I have enjoyed more here in a week than years on other social media. Well played, Mastodon!

My journey started in public education, then to instructional design and elearning. The advent of social tech opened my eyes to informal and social learning and ultimately to my great interest today in organizational design. I'm coming to the realization that if we build organizations with social at the center many of the traditional systems of power and communication go away. If we get the design right, everything falls in line.

Talking w/ my 11 yr old abt social tech. He says its cool.

I said: No, it's not cool. What is cool is how it CAN connect you to others, present you with new ideas, change your thinking. It's about the people within. the communities you form or join, the networks you foster... it's about you and that's what's cool.

Building good communities is more important then enforcing rules

Helping someone understand why rules exist is more important then telling them what the rules are

You don't have to build your communities like you're a company. You can just TALK to people.

DO be explicit about your community norms. DO use your moderation tools to enforce them where necessary. But for the love of god, don't mistake rules lawyering for an actual community.

Happy that the star here is labeled "Favourite" (spelling aside ;) ) and not "like". The Twitter change to "like" was an absolute killer to conversation

Sort of feeling like the tribes are gathering, like they did 10 years ago (this time more slowly). I miss the regathering of the tribes in a new space.
