Mastodon's Hierarchy Problem, as seen by a newbie.
This is going to be a political thread. I am going to talk about Eugen. But I'm also going to be talking about systems bigger than this platform. This post has hereby been disclaimed.
Let's start where I began. I moved here from Tumblr in August, with one of the bigger Twitter migration waves. This instance has been my home ever since, with alts a-plenty. But this was not my first time on fedi. I had a .social profile once, for a day. It was hard to navigate, seemingly devoid of content, and somehow still rather over-stimulating. I quit almost immediately.
I am not a developer, I am not a software engineer. I do not "code". However, I am very well versed in how to read and understand people. From the very beginning on sunbeam, this platform struck me as an enclave. It was discovered, and then built upon, by those who had nowhere else to go.
Just wanna remind ppl that La Guardia Air Traffic controllers refusing to show up for unpaid work is what ended the shutdown.
Trump caved within hours of this happening.
And, as a union worker, this is poetic justice for what Reagan did in the 80's when he fired all the striking air traffic controllers--something that's haunted unions & their membership ever since.
"The Brazilian mathematician Carolina Araujo, who calls herself 'a bit of an anarchist,' is organizing meetings and building a support network to study and solve the problems women face in mathematics."
While we prefer the republic, we must recognise and proclaim that whatever the form of government may be, so long as human society continues to be divided into different classes as a result of the hereditary inequality of occupations, of wealth, of education, and of rights, there will always be a class-restricted government and the inevitable exploitation of the majorities by the minorities.

This is about a month overdue but hello! I am Delta (she/they), I'm a postgrad student in the UK working on quantum optoelectronics.
Friends have described me as "The Worst Person" and "Too cursed to ever die"!
Things I like include being gay, anarchism, Terrible things, excessive worldbuilding, cats, monsters, and Spite.
Nice to meet you!
I think the worst thing about capitalism (for now, my viewpoint may further evolve) is how people are wrung dry for every ounce of profitable productivity in their bodies with no regard to their status as humans. People think this gets better when you're your own boss but arguably it's even worse. The "rise and grind" and "I'll rest when I'm dead" mentality is unhealthy, leaving behind scores of people burnt out, numb, and disillusioned with life.
the libertarian subreddit dealt with a right-wing takeover recently, where all left-libertarians and some right-libertarians were banned. it got restored thanks to a new ancom moderator.
right now folks who sympathize with the takeover are pulling the you-have-no-free-speech-on-private-property defense, which is funny because:
1. if the new mod started banning all ancaps they would throw a fit
2. it shows that the ancom respects divergent opinions more than right-libertarians

Let's talk about how @noelle is literally what's keeping mastodon.social going, yet she can't afford to survive
Yet if you ask her about it she STILL has nice things to say about Eugen and the platform
She deserves your funding. Pls give money directly to her
