Little things annoy me in Massachusetts legal practice (in addition to big things). Examples:
-The convention is to cite statutes as, e.g., "G.L. c. 66, § 10." Lots of states codify their statutes as "general laws." The implicit ignoring of every other state in citation form grates on me.
-In captions, the convention is to put ", ss" after the county: "SUFFOLK, ss." This is a holdover from ancient English practice. It's stupid. I refuse. I instead write "SUFFOLK COUNTY."
