Running a defrag on my SSD and it's weird to me that I can do this while running an OS from it at the same time
@DarkestKale my dad was a faithful defragger when you had to do it manually, I loved those boxes
@DarkestKale Can you defrag SSDs now? I remember being told you shouldn't do it
@DarkestKale I'm pretty sure defragging isn't necessary for an SSD, just uses up some write cycles (or more likely doesn't do anything because the drivers are a bit smarter now)
@Fenreliania @DarkestKale That's my understanding as well. Defragging on a platter hardrive was to put the parts of files near each other, so the head didn't have to physically move all over just to read 1 file. SSDs don't aren't worried about that.
@DarkestKale
Thought SSDs weren't supposed to be defragged
@SilencingTrees yeah some folks and I have been discussing that :D
I remember ages ago, a defrag was like 'yeah you're outta your PC for a day or two'
Doesn't have a visualisation though, which makes me sad
