I was just writing a friend an email about , so I thought I would share my responses to their questions here as well for folks, that might be curious…

> So would you say is like a mini burning man or how would you compare the two?

There's definitely some similarities to Burning Man in terms of the overall aesthetic and vibe. There are also some differences. Some of the most important, IMO, are:
* Neo is quite a lot smaller than BM. Like, 60k @ BM vs maybe 2k @ Neo.
* Gifting is not guaranteed at Neo -- folks often have to do something to get something. Like quests.

> Tell me more about the dressing up in character aspect of and the quests.

I definitely think there is some synergy possible here. For me, I basically just started by dressing up with whatever I thought fit the theme, and overtime it kind of snowballed to form something of a character. I’m sure you know how projects go, a lot of it is still a work in progress :-)

At a basic level, all that’s required is for you to show up and dress cool, and play along!

> So it seems like this is mainly about the activities and experience. What is the most unique thing you saw last year?

The creativity displayed by the attendees of is truly exceptional. Like any large scale event, it’s hard to select just one thing… It’s sort of a copout, but I think the overall “culture“ of the event was the coolest thing that I saw. I did have a lot of fun participating in some quests and a synthesizer meetup and doing some bartering.

@Diplodocus im going for the first time this year, is there anything i should know as a first timer?

@H3L1X Awesome! Certainly read the website for the basic info. I guess I’d encourage you to bring some items for gifting and trading. Stickers, patches, anything with LEDs, small electronics, crystals, 3d prints, are all good examples.

I’m happy to answer any other questions you might have about the event! :clippy:

@Diplodocus thank you. I have scoured the website and tried to find every mention of it on the internet. (May be hyperfocusing on it a bit) I am definitely planing to bring a bunch of stuff to trade. I am curious about the themed camping. I kinda want to do it, but dont know enough about what needs to be done. I read the doc on their site but still not quite sure how involved it needs to be. If i have any specific questions I will definitely ask.

@H3L1X basically, most folks will camp outside of the “theme zone” where costumes and role playing is “required”. There are quest lines once you get there to join up with the themed groups. HTH

@Diplodocus okay cool thanks for the info.
