Last night I restarted Chrome and I got this message and just like that I'm a Firefox user again
@vaurora
Sorry to tell you, that Firefox isn't that save neither anymore.
They have changed their terms, so there is space for selling data to third parties.
I can recommend Libre Wolf, or Tor Browser to be on the safe side
@desatyr @vaurora Firefox is better than default Chrome for privacy. Chrome collects more data than Firefox. Firefox does collect some data now, but it's still less than Chrome.
It's similar to comparing Apple and Android. Stock iOS collects less data than stock Android, but GrapheneOS is the better option for privacy.
Firefox forks like Librewolf and Zen Browser aren't affected by Firefox's data collection changes. Brave, a Chromium fork, also offers better privacy than Chrome.
This is just my view on the hole Firefox vs Chrome thing!
@midtsveen @desatyr @vaurora But then there's this considering the Brave thing: https://mastodon.social/@dalias@hachyderm.io/114160787340933874
I read that just above your post in this thread, coincidentally.
@ElBeeToots @desatyr @vaurora yup, but no company or software is 100% perfect, that's just the world we live in
@midtsveen @ElBeeToots @desatyr @vaurora Brave is really far from "not perfect". https://www.spacebar.news/stop-using-brave-browser/
I mean, even ignoring politics and crypto scams - they were literally rewriting URLs to add their affiliate links, and when caught, they tried to make fool of everyone claiming it was a mistake.
There are degoogled chrome forks, there is Vivaldi, Brave is just bad.
@shine @ElBeeToots @desatyr @vaurora again. Nothing is 100% perfect in this world
@shine also when Vivaldi goes open source come back to me! Currently I use zen browser!
@midtsveen Same. I generally refuse to use anything Chromium based unless necessary (one of main reasons to start such browser is WebUSB support). But when it comes to Brave, my trust in them is so low, that I'd still prefer browser that is in a small part closed source over them.
@shine yeah, I agree with you, I don't place my trust in Brave .
