I’m trying not to post too much about the aftermath on the . I just want city to rebuild. In silence.

But jeez. I have a good friend living with me now because she won’t be able to go home until they clear her home of ash and dust. Same with another family, who’s dads house is a total loss. State Farm everywhere. Also. I just saw a random pack of coyotes just… trotting down the street from CalTech. Casual. And everybody was just letting them trot. Staring.

This is gonna be a THING.

….and now the rain, which we usually would be hyped for, has hit. Water quality about to be questionable for a while.

@Doreen32128 big extended thing I completely underestimated.

@ErickaSimone we had a coyote wander into my neighborhood in MN not terribly long ago. He was just trotting along down the street. Eventually moved into the sidewalk, before he noticed I saw him and then bolted into the woods.

@ErickaSimone I lost my home in the Park Fire this past July 24th. We live one town away from Paradise, the Camp fire of 2018 was devastating. Be patient, healing and recovery will take much more time than anyone likes. In Butte County, I don't know anyone that hasn't been touched by fire, we are all members of a club that no one wanted to join. Wishing you all love and strength.

@fischerli hi friend. I’m so sorry for your loss. Paradise was serious. I’m really glad you’re safe.

I’m ready for the long haul. I just… as a California native I think I have hit my ceiling for natural disasters. lol. Taking that love and strength and sending it back to you.

@fischerli @ErickaSimone Strength, support, community and well wishes to both of you from afar 🥺

@ErickaSimone The coyotes are the one thing that makes sense. They were there first and they've seen fires before.

@wpeckham they make sense. But not this far south. In packs. During the day. I hope it’s a good omen tho. We could use it.

@ErickaSimone coyotes are not uncommon from the southern reaches of the northern territories all the way down to Panama. You might not see them, but they're there. During fires they are smart enough to not stay in their territory when the flames are coming. If they're moving through their own territory, you rarely see them because they stay hidden. If they're moving through territory that is not their own, they will move where they can see far to avoid other packs.

@wpeckham it’s insane that they’re this far south. And trotting around in the day. They usually pop up in singles and at night for me. It’s just a sign of a massive shift.

@ErickaSimone @wpeckham
They're all over the hills. We used to hear them howl at night when we lived near open land in Santa Barbara. I even saw one trotting down the street in Ventura in an area that wasn't near any open land, so he was lost.

@CassandraVert yeah. Their normal home is fine so I guess we should share ours for now.
