this screams golden age illustrator
You want it to have a coating that protects the paint from the sun, air and other stuff, while being easy to take off without hurting the paint.
Best suggestion would be to have a professional conservator to take care of it.
They are usually kind of expensive, but like, you get what you pay for and usually it's worth it
Although you gotta take a good look at who you are giving it too. There are people who think they are great but who are not
@ChrisTalleras it breaks my heart cause local collectors over in New Mexico are literally selling his brothers works for thousands of dollars and meanwhile Baba's stuff has just been crumbling to dust in people's closets.
This channel does a lot of conservations https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9V_wxBr8SQ
but like, honestly as you can see in a video like that it's a whole craft in it self and many things can go wrong, so I'd be very carefull with doing anything to it and maybe try to find a good way of storing it first. Some way to keep it from bending and holding it in place away from contact or friction.
Here is a resource for conserving paintings which you can use
@ChrisTalleras thankyou! Yeah I know it's beyond my ability to repair it myself but I'd like to extend it's life as long as possible
@scoots I wouldn't shy away from crowdfunding after getting a price estimate from a conservator if that could help with paying it.
@ChrisTalleras thanks, I'll consider it. I'm in a very large city so I'm sure there's some conservators even in the city art community, especially given our relative nearness to major art museums.
@scoots That's awesome. The museum would be the best place to ask probably.
And TBH I wouldn't mind buying a painting like that heheh
@ChrisTalleras I'm glad you think so highly of it! My grandfather did murals and worked on films like King Kong before eventually working on the Apollo program at NASA.
«They were indeed what was known as 'old money', which meant that it had been made so long ago that the black deeds which had originally filled the coffers were now historically irrelevant.
Funny, that: a brigand for a father was something you kept quiet about, but a slave-taking pirate for a great-great-great-grandfather was something to boast of over the port.
@FiXato oh my hahah
