I hate #emoji / #emojo that are used *instead of* words... Especially if they are tiny custom ones that are difficult to recognise.
Especially on a touchscreen device / in an app where I can't just hover over them to get their alt-text.
@fedilab might it be an idea to add an option per toot to replace all emoji with their plaint-text codes or alt-texts? As well as the ability to tap/hold on them in place of a hover alt-text?
The much anticipated PinePhone, PineTab, PineTime update, right on schedule:
This is what 20€ shipping gets you: A lovely #MSX that looks like it was kicked all the way to its destination by a rugby team 😞
@dadegroot They use quartz glass. According to the article:
"Unlike fragile wine glasses or light bulbs, the squares of quartz glass used for data storage are surprisingly hard to destroy. Early on, the research team tried baking one in an oven at 500 degrees, microwaving, boiling it, scouring it with steel wool. And when they read the data back, it was all still there."
A possible future for permanent storage.
"Microsoft and Warner Bros. have collaborated to successfully store and retrieve the entire 1978 iconic “Superman” movie on a piece of glass roughly the size of a drink coaster, 75 by 75 by 2 millimeters thick."
"The Library didn’t only contain magical books, the ones which are chained to their shelves and are very dangerous. It also contained perfectly ordinary books, printed on commonplace paper in mundane ink. It would be a mistake to think that they weren’t also dangerous, just because reading them didn’t make fireworks go off in the sky. Reading them sometimes did the more dangerous trick of making fireworks go off in the privacy of the reader’s brain."
~ Terry Pratchett (Soul Music)
Once I get home to unmetered broadband Internet, I'll upload all of the photos I took to a public album, but in the mean time, enjoy this #dailyPhotograph taken from the boat of the sun hitting the mountains and reflecting on the water.
