My husband doesn't want pets. I used to take my kids to the pet store so they'd be familiar with them and unafraid of nice ones (always stressing they should respectfully ask the owner before petting or assuming one was "nice"). My daughter now has a cat and 3 very nice dogs.
My son wants a wolf.

Protip: Get yourself a blanket, a book, maybe some snacks and go setup right in the middle of a popular park. It is only a matter of time before someone's dog runs over to you out of curiosity or looking for pets. If you want to speed it up a little maybe have a pocket full of dog treats 😃.
