@bstacey I am kinda loving it tbh. Just didn't get much writing done in the past 2 weeks, becaue i pushed 10hrs on my birthday (for other stuff) and my CFS was like "nuh uh".

@maloki dunno if this is counted under Community Outreach since it's more inward-facing, but if you're in need of some kind of inclusion consultant I'd be interested (especially if it pays some amount).

But a good start, is to help newcomers to Mastodon when you see them in the federated or local timelines.

If I see that they do I usually boost it as well. 😎
There's also #needhelp where people may ask questions when they need help. Instead of tagging support.

@Gargron @maloki It's good to see you making these changes. One thing I think needs to be very clear is whether these are paid or volunteer positions. I'm almost certain they're volunteer, but permanent positions with Capital Letters may lead some people to think otherwise, and it's wise to nip that in the bud.

Mastodon is definitely being considered as a venue for it, we just don't want things to accidentally get lost. But I have some ideas, which I pinched from some sci-fi guys starting a book club. :) Just a feedback thread / week or so, on a dedicated account etc. We'll see how it pans out!

@wxl hmm, I tried to reply to this earlier, but I think it may not have been sent properly, lots of 500 errors today.
We did not define it outright because we don't know.

Re positions, we'll have an open process of some type, at least for paid, and maybe even several people can help out on the same thing, each position isn't necessarily one person, and one person isn't necessarily only one position. If that makes sense?

@wxl No, most discussions are either picked from posts (like the medium one, or just on mastodon) or in the discord, which is connected for patrons of Gargron.
People do however get invited. To it as well, especially when they want to help out! :) Follow me and Gargron, and you should not miss when we go out with some more info though.

@maloki I was just discussing with someone that if Mastodon is to act as a open source project that serves the community of Mastodon users (as opposed to serving only the patrons), it would make sense that discussions would be brought out into the public. I think a mailing list would be fantastic.

@wxl Oh yeah, no I get that. But I honestly think there are too many people with an aversion to mailing lists (I for one).
We have a few mailing lists, with specific goals, to not get too overcrowded. Like for admins/instance owners. And soon for translators.
The use of the Discord has changed over the past month with the increase of exposure and users. Which is kinda why it's on a discord. If that makes sense, we haven't had time to go anywhere else yet.

@wxl which is now what we're trying to improve, with another platform for feedback/discussions (hopefully).

@maloki yeah, i guess i'm old, but mailing lists do work really well given they're asynchronous which works well for a distributed team.

i think adding some sort of platform for news/announcements as well as an additional one for development discussion would be good, too.

@wxl It's coming. All of it, all the information!
We did say we were improving the communication stuff across the board on platforms etc, blog too. and stuff™. Just have a lot of backlog to catch up with.

Right now, I'm already overworked for today (I have chronic fatigue syndrome), so I just need to get back talking about and fixing other things tomorrow.
