Theresa May: "I'm clear: if human rights laws get in the way of tackling extremism and terrorism, we will change those laws to keep British people safe."

Power grabs after attacks are as predictable as the sun rising in the east

@Gargron

Does she know that humans right laws are for protecting people?

@Gargron the image I have of extreme right is that of a tyrannosaurus rex with the brain as big as a pea

@Gargron what the fuuuuck
how does someone say that and not realize they sound like a fucking villain from a movie

@Gargron Translation: "If laws that stop me from killing people get in the way of preventing me from killing people, then I will change those laws so that I can kill people."

@gargron What the fuck.
Do her supporters even comprehend how stupid that is?

@Gargron I thought it was a fake account... fuck it's not.

@gargron I've erased three messages I typed in response to this. I can't add anything constructive. I'll leave it at that.

@Gargron "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."

@Gargron @jd Each of at least the last three UK governments has criticised legal judgements that have come down against them against them due to human rights law. Those in power never like to have their actions constrained by law, which makes it ask the more important to make sure those laws stay.

The rule of law is one of those national defining values we are supposed to be defending from the terrorists, isn't it?

@rochelimit @Gargron @jd May has always been an autocrat. Just look at what she did while at the Home Office to extend surveillance powers. The real worry is that she doesn't see the harm this does to the freedom of citizens.

@mkwadee @rochelimit @Gargron

"There's nothing in the Human Rights Act that gets in the way of effectively tackling terrorism," says Labour's Keir Starmer (former director of Public Prosecutions)

@mkwadee @rochelimit @Gargron @jd

It doesn't affect her freedom. Therefore, any effect it may have on freedoms -- for some hypothetical 'other citizens' -- is simply a preposterous fantasy. >.>

@gargron May: we won't let terrorists change our way of life.   Then she proposes changing our way of life! Bonkers.
@gargron people love that shit. The thought of locking up the other is so hot for the authoritarian closeted oppressed British psyche
@Gargron And next she will demand an enabling act - but of course only temporarily ...

@Gargron Oh boy. You are SO fucked. Get rid of her ASAP.
Or, well, enjoy your brexit (see what I did there?)

@Gargron She's selling freedom for reelection. Bad. really bad.
