Eugen @Gargron

We're working on moving mastodon.social media uploads to a new provider 'cause the ARM CPU on the old box isn't dealing with this well

@Gargron [another Hellbird exodus]

This kills the server

@calvin it's a SoYouStart storage server with 6TB disk.

@Gargron So for now, media uploads are a Mastodon't?

@Gargron is the hamster in the wheel still ok? Give the lil fellah a drink on us, he's doing a damn good job ;)

@Gargron I believe in you (and the new provider). Was trying to upload some stuff too just now!

@Gargron what's your plan to avoid App.Net?

@Gargron arm, what kind of machine is/was that then?

@Gargron Is that why I can't get an avatar to stick? Or is that unrelated?

@Gargron consider using the BigDataEurope platform: big-data-europe.eu/platform/ it has already components to deal with linked data and offers the necessary power if your instance grows further.

All new uploads are now going to the new provider. Old uploads are being copied over now. That's gonna take a while

@Gargron Thank you again for your tireless work on .social

We very much appreciate it :)

@Gargron Are you also a developer for Tweetdeck because this is the the exact same down the the design assets

Alright I made it so that there's another non-ARM server load balancing between new and old providers because images were still getting loaded too slow. Should be fine now.

@Gargron
Is there a way we can change our usernames??

@Gargron I have no idea what that means but thank you.

@Gargron animated gif of well below 2MB still not uploading properly for profile images (just tried with one that was 500KB or so)? is it doing conversion to mp4 and the mp4 is somehow ending up over 2MB or something?

@Gargron you need a leg CPU or something... I'm tech savvy...

@thebigcatshow @Gargron gimme some of that LEG64, with an instruction set as bad as MIPS
