How to make people not want to use Mastodon:

"Hey, welcome to our Twitter! It's like Twitter but it's not so if you hate Twitter but still want to use it, use our Twitter. No it's not a hipster thing. 🍍 "

@MutoShack twitter but half the nodes use blocklists from people they dont even know so you will constantly be running into accounts you can't follow/interact with because some weird racist thinks all japanese art is child porn and a bunch of chuds took his word at face value

@MutoShack @animeirl No need to refer to it as Twitter like. #Mastodon is simply a freely distributed #microblogging platform. There are some others besides it and Twitter, like say plurk.com and the Chinese company Sina.

But only Mastodon is decentralised, and only on Mastodon people seem to be a little more frank and true to their nature. Those are all huge selling points in its favour: It’s similar to Twitter, but very different from it in nature.

Absolutely! I tend to not think of GNU Social or Mastodon as "Twitter-like" at all, since I've been using GNU Social since before I even tried Twitter. I was just trying to make a joke, is all 😅
