Eugen @Gargron

Apparently "go woolly" is what we say instead of "go viral" over here hmm

@Gargron here let me re"toot" that for you

@MightyPork I'm pretty sure @ada just coined it (my last boost)

@Gargron @MightyPork hehe I heard it ages ago, shortly after launch and it kinda stuck with me. I love using it.

@ada @MightyPork @Gargron Pretty sure I originated "woolly"… although sadly my other neologisms have yet to catch on mastodon.social/@nolan/1522550

@Gargron @MightyPork @ada Also I am hereby releasing "woolly" under a CC ShareAlike License. It belongs to the world now

@nolan @Gargron Yep, saw this toot referenced in a news article about Mastodon. :-)

@Gargron This is probably good as a virus is (always?) undesirable while wool is great.

@cb @Gargron If we want to be technical about it, I think the stuff in that photo is “woolen fleece.” Once shorn, then it’s wool.

@rotatingskull @cb Yeah but I think woolly mammoths were not shorn before being called woolly

@Gargron @cb *extremely nerds voice* Actually, wild sheep (and maybe mammoths too) are shorn. They’re just shorn by walking through brambles and between trees which removes their fleece in a self-regulating, natural way. If sheep don’t get shorn they will get gross stuff growing on their skin under the matted fleece, so the sheering process is essential to their health, whether it’s done by Nature or a farmer.

@cb
Only the wollliest will survive...
@Gargron

@Gargron #WOOLLY BULLYYYYYY!

Woolly Bully 😆

Yeah a lot more fun than the pathogenic alternative.

@Gargron That doesn't really make sense but it's adorable so I love it.

That's because it's woolgathering.

(Sort of like snowballing, but woollier.)

@gargron For whatever reason, I'm getting an error, trying to reply to this toot mentioning you.
