@kaia @futurebird Welllllllll. Myrmie, my friend, has 18,000 followers here, deservedly. I, a lesser figure, have 5k and change followers.
Can't speak for her, but I can for me. I had five times as many followers on Twitter -- it was Twitter when I was there, not X -- and I got a fifth of the actual engagement, and five times the mean-spirited drive-bys I get here.
@GeePawHill @kaia @futurebird
I confess that I still visit X, and a full third of replies to an AOC post will just be variations on "Shut up, you're stupid." Thankfully, I've still never seen that here.
Honestly, people keep saying "Mastodon is too hard to use for most people" but it's really not. However, I'll gladly take the smaller, more pleasant community of people who went through the arduous task of googling "Mastodon server" and signing up over the outright hostility on Twitter where people crave engagement so much that most active accounts engaging with the site are doing so in perpetual bad faith arguments.
