I don't own a car in Los Angeles ask me anything.
@GinnyMcQueen …or rather, more specifically, not covering myself in a cloak of steel so that i could shut out the world.
@GinnyMcQueen Which train do you normally use?
@GinnyMcQueen Well damn! That is impressive.
@sydneyfalk Without car payments or insurance.
I have done public transit (it was a very useful experience in some ways, and did have those "not paying insurance and shit" up sides), but in a MUCH smaller city than LA, like by several orders of population magnitude. (I actually had the bus all to myself maybe 1/10th of the time, which was so weird!)
I just imagine it's a LOT more of a pain in "we drive three blocks" LA. (But I guess I'm assuming, too.)
@GinnyMcQueen OMG, like, do you Uber everywhere? (I'm saying that in my bad attempt at a California accent btw)
@GinnyMcQueen Is it as infuriating as I imagine?
The main feeling I have gotten from weeks of being on Mastodon is that everyone here has, like, a lot of money.
It's a bit alienating. 👽
@Xowap Any response to things like health care, transportation, etc in my mentions is almost completely shock at what people who aren't rolling in money deal with.
@GinnyMcQueen interesting correllation
@GinnyMcQueen you are wrong we got tons of Bitcoins bahahaahaha
@GinnyMcQueen Not Me
@GinnyMcQueen I am not one of those. I am on a fixed income, which is not much.
@GinnyMcQueen I assure you, you are not alone.
@GinnyMcQueen More so than on Twitter? As in, do you think the mastodon userbase self-selects socioeconomically "upward"?
@fredw It is also pretty white. But I only know the microclimate of tooters I see.
@GinnyMcQueen new tech, and open source in particular, often skews heavily towards "has time and attention available for this"
@GinnyMcQueen GOTTA SAY, I certainly don't have much money. I'm trying to port everyone over to here from my Twitterbase.
@GinnyMcQueen Allow me to be the exception to this rule, as I am an unemployed broke-as-fuck shut-in. 😄
@GinnyMcQueen
Based on the anecdotal evidence of me alone, you're absolutely correct.
@TheDistinction @GinnyMcQueen Just out of curiosity what makes you feel like that?
@NeuroWinter @TheDistinction Large percentage of response to things like health care, transportation, etc in my mentions is shock at what people who aren't rolling in money deal with.
@GinnyMcQueen @TheDistinction Ahh I havnt read them, is is good that they are now exposed to it now though.
(I am guessing you are talking about those from a United States point of view? )
@NeuroWinter @GinnyMcQueen
Based on the anecdotal evidence of me alone, you're absolutely correct.
Update: I wasn't sure that it was clear I referenced my privileged status.
@GinnyMcQueen Not all of us do!
@GinnyMcQueen What? Yeah, compared to the world I have a lot of money, I live in Norway so I'm in the top few percent by default. But I've been without a job for two years and compared to others in Norway I guess I'm almost poor, maybe. PS: I live off of dumpsters, AMA :P
@GinnyMcQueen Also, a lot of us live in Socialist Europe.
@GinnyMcQueen What's the best way to get lime scale out of a toilet?
@GinnyMcQueen hello I am familiar with this life (not a question)
@GinnyMcQueen I have never had a driver's license, but I did have a permit once when I was still in my home town.
@GinnyMcQueen Top 3 ways you get around? Average monthly transportation costs?
@GinnyMcQueen Do you think you'd adjust to a place with public transit quickly?
@GinnyMcQueen seriously? I interviewed at UCLA and took my Bike Friday and they all thought I was insane for riding in traffic.
