Unfortunately the answers I was given about the abuse experienced here on mastodon.social are not sufficient to make me feel safe or welcome.
Being a straight, cis, white lady saying that should hopefully make you understand that those less privileged than myself are in a position to feel even less safe.
Continuing with instances whose admins endorse and commit harassment, libel, and numerous other infringements of their own rules is not a safe practice. It endangers every user here.
Abusers will always win when everyone else sits by and watches. Unfortunately this community hasn't gotten to where it can protect its own.
I'm sorry for your ordeals, @GinnyMcQueen. It's disheartening to see the rampant misogyny and personal attacks continue, and depressing to see other men not recognize the abuse for what it truly is.

@GinnyMcQueen I fear that this is a reflection of who we are as a society. Both sides of the spectrum unwilling to see value in the other... only anger and abuse remain.

@GinnyMcQueen Have you checked out anticapitalist.party? they have a safer space policy and blacklist known hostile instances.
@GinnyMcQueen If/when I set up an instance for myslf and my wife, you will be more than welcome, and I won't tolerate harassment. I'm fond of ban-hammers and block lists for the sorts of people who harass others.
I just need to put together the time to actually spin up the instance.
@GinnyMcQueen Seeing the harassment on here has pushed me for towards starting my own mastodon instance.
I haven't seen any instance that I would feel comfortable with right now. That could change.
Honestly, I would only feel really okay with my own instance right now and that's not exactly something I can do with my resources.
Who knows. This just happened. Anything can change. We could all be dead tomorrow.
