hey guys!! its my birthday!! can i get some boosts?

On Mastodon you have 3 different timelines:

HOME - Like Twitter, shows all the posts of the people you follow

LOCAL - Shows all the posts of the members of your Instance

FEDERATED - Shows all the posts of the people that you follow and also the posts of people on other Instances that are followed by people of your Instance

The Instance you choose is very Important and depending on it your experience on Mastodon, the people you will see and the community talk will be very different.

On instances.social/ you can easily search instances based on language, interests and some badic policies. The suggestions about Instances on this website are more detailed and precise than the ones on joinmastodon.org

My experience of getting harassed and how Mastadon dealt with it brought up some insights.

1. I joined Mastadon yesterday, a network that presents an alternative to toxic social platforms.

Rest in the pictures below 2-5.

I’ve found that general instances are a good base to start off with . I started with the following three :

1. Mastodon.social
2. Mstdn.social
3. Masthead.social

@dorkymcdarkface posted a master list of mastodon instances today . Find that list and go through it at your leisure to discover some instances you’d love to be a part of .

Personally , I’d recommend doing this after you’ve lurked on general instances for a few days and have a hang of how things work here

Your instance moderators can't do anything about a problem they don't know about. When and if you see a harmful, offensive, or dangerous post, report it.

Hours after Modi-led govt removed SPG protection for the Gandhi family, Rahul Gandhi tweeted his thanks to the SPG saying that they worked “tirelessly” to protect his family.

Hello. Going mirror now at 8pm (now) to discuss our shift to Mastodon. Will be quoting some toots that you've shared with me.

I'm trying to keep track of the mass migrations to Mastodon that have happened.

I think it started with:
- early adopters, programmers, FOSS people
- tons of peeps in Japan
- furry community moving off Twitter
- LGBTQ+ folks leaving twitter
- people who saw that polygon article (me) or heard about it when it started getting mentioned on hackernews
- comics/artists leaving twitter
- NSFW blogs leaving Tumblr
- sex workers
- and now, Indian politics Twitter users

Am I missing any big moments?

>>> the Instances:

mstdn.social
mas.to
inditoot.com

(I am not suggesting you that these are better than others, but simply reporting what some new users said)

STEP 2: Export your posts, followers and silenced users list and import them in the new account as explained here: blog.joinmastodon.org/2019/06/

If you need help on this, please contact admins and users of the Instances that you signed up. Please note that if obe of the two instances is using an old version of Mastodon software, this process can work only partially.

hi new users!! i'm not sure how to reach a large amount of you other than having this post on the local timeline.

i'm a moderator here!
when reporting someone, doing it once is fine. real humans are handling your reports, and reporting someone multiple times adds to the workload!
also, when you do report someone, please add an explanation as to why you're reporting them. you can also add specific toots that you believe break our CoC, which you can find here: mastodon.social/about/more
