It can be said that the likes of Ubuntu and Gnome are the "standards" in the Linux world.

So, there is no problem. Developers on any field: support Ubuntu, and you've got basically the whole Linux world covered 👍

There are politics behind the scenes, though, for not supporting Linux.

Technically it's insane nowadays for not supporting Linux. Valve (Steam) has got it already big time.
