It is a *massive* #privacy and #security issue. The idea behind the #EU is that we're all supposed to abide by certain minimum standards and therefore we can trust each other.

Sadly, levels of respect for #private life, #democratic principles and rule of #law can and do vary wildly across the EU, as does the #competence of law enforcement workers.

This is another one of those stupid ideas that don't take cultural and historical differences into account.
