@Gargron So far it’s apparently mostly tumbleweed at Truth.Social. Shame these articles don’t mention Mastodon anywhere. I suppose it would have been better if it was referred to as a “Twitter and Mastodon ripoff” or some such.

POLITICOThe Emptiness Inside Donald Trump’s New Social Media PlatformI joined Truth Social. Why do I feel like the only one?

@LeonardoDiOttio @Gargron if they did mention mastadon, people like me would flock to it. Cant wait for truth.social to be as big of a disaster as the dorito dictaros whole presidency. At least hell be able to give himself a participation prize for it

@LeonardoDiOttio Apparently, half their users don't even follow Trump; he's created a platform purely to fulfil his own ego and even half it's users are telling him where to shove it!

@dheadshot The main problem is probably that echo chambers are no fun if the main reason you’re on social media is to shock and irritate people you disagree with. Apart from perhaps some minor radicalisation there is little to gain from preaching to the converted.

Paul Barrett, deputy director at New York University’s Stern Center for Business and Human Rights describes it well in this piece: theguardian.com/us-news/2022/f

The GuardianTruth Social: will Trump’s ‘free speech haven’ overcome its rocky start?By Kari Paul

@LeonardoDiOttio Russian bot farms are too busy with other things at the moment.

@LeonardoDiOttio @Gargron I think the big problem with the conservative sites like MeWe, Gettr, and now truth social is that people there are too focused on political complaints and all the things they c couldn't say on main stream social media. I'm on a few and realize the only way they'll survive is to become a little more generalized.

@davidpetersonharvey @Gargron I also think that one problem these sites have (and that goes for Mastodon too) is that they lack corporate players to drive people to those networks. It’s quite common for major consumer brands to have a Twitter account, use it to talk to their customers or even require it for customer support.

That makes Twitter a mass network with a widely varied user base of millions. And that has an appeal that more niche networks will never have. Echo chambers are no fun.
