PRO TIP:

Unlike BirdSite, your TOOTS CAN BE EDITED on Mastadon! Follow this simple 3-step process to start using this valuable feature:

1. Tap on the 3 dots under the toot you want to edit for options

2. A new dialog box opens. Select 'Delete & re-draft'

3. Confirm the edit by selecting 'Delete & Redraft'

4. You can now edit BOTH the text & privacy setting for your Toot! When satisfied w/ the changes, select 'Toot'! πŸ˜ŠπŸ’β€β™‚οΈ

@Lord_VoldeMaut history of re-draft can be viewed as like in Facebook?

@DineshKumar

Since Mastodon's edit option is 'delete & redraft', the edited Toot shows up as a NEW Toot n previous boosts n favorites gained on it are lost!!

Hope that explains it. πŸ™‚πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ

@Lord_VoldeMaut but it is a new toot and you will lose any boosts and favorites. Also if any one has already replied to your toot, those replies will be orphaned.

@Lord_VoldeMaut this doesn't edit the toot in place, it just deletes it and takes it back to the editing screen. So any interactions (replies, boosts, or favorites) will be gone

@Lord_VoldeMaut just a warning. if anyone liked or boosted it editing it will delete those actions and you are back with a post that has no interactions

@liaizon

Yes, I did communicate that little catch in a later Toot...πŸ™‚βœŒοΈ

@gunjank

That's correct!
Which is why Mastodon calls that option "Delete & Redraft".
Editing a Toot will remove any earned likes and boosts. The comments aren't deleted, but they will move to an orphaned state...

Hope this helps! πŸ™‚πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ
