Meloni said that extending Article 5 of NATO to Ukraine "seems to be the simplest and most effective proposal of all, also because it will help call Russia's possible bluff."
️"If Russia does not plan to invade its neighbors again, it is unclear why it should not accept security guarantees that are only defensive," she noted.
@MAKS23 Brilliant.
@MAKS23 Am I the only person with jaw on the floor? I mean, this is great, but surely unexpected…
@cemerick @timbray @MAKS23 Sending them, at least saying we will right away when nothing is clear, its a risky thing because anything can turn against the government both because of that side of the coalition held by salvini ( ) and by some representatives of the opposition parties willing to jump on anything to help a crash of this government too
Their stupidity goes as far as some crying "the fascists want to send our soldiers in Ukraine again" or "Meloni started the Ukraine war" (WTF?? )
@calispera @timbray @MAKS23 I can't fathom that, insofar as Leonardo and Fincantieri would massively benefit, and it'd probably be a big help with migration operations (whatever one thinks about such things)
@MAKS23 I am so, so confused by Meloni
@MAKS23 Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
@MAKS23 Well - as it seems like Russia isn't really interested in negotiating a way to peace with the country they (unprovoked) have attacked, this seems like a good alternative. Also, the President of Finland have suggested a scheme for Ukraine's admission to NATO - at least become a de facto member. This means that if it does not join the organization as such, then in case of any violation of a ceasefire or peace agreement, Ukraine will automatically become a member of NATO.
