Before today, I knew: the reason Twitter was originally limited to 140 characters was so it could be transmitted over SMS (which was limited to 1120 bits, or 160 7-bit characters).
TIL: the reason SMS is limited to 160 7-bit characters is because Friedhelm Hillebrand, who was the chairman of the non-voice services committee within the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), found that a) the average sentence was <160 characters, and b) that matched the average postcard.

You've made it clear that I'm not welcome here, and even though I disagree with the action this Admin is taking (banning me when I didn't break any rules doesn't seem right), I respect and support the Admin's decision to run their instance the way they see fit.

I've waited for a follow up and have not used the app since then. I'd be more concerned that the bugs run deeper and that testing did not reveal this problem earlier.

I’ve always been liberal. Two men I disagreed with but respected from the GOP were John McCain & Colin Powell. They helped me understand that it was possible to respect people who were wrong, which was hard when Peter King was my congressmen & Bush/Cheney were in the White House.
