ive noticed adding image descriptions is unnecessarily difficult, which could discourage people from actually adding descriptions

1. you can only add descriptions to the tiny cropped thumbnail image, so generally i have to open the image up in a separate tab and put them side-by-side while writing the image description. if you could click the image for a full-res preview while typing the description, that would be magnificent

2. if i leave the text field of the image description, e.g. to look at the full size image in another window (see problem #1), when i return it's gone back to the start of the text so i have to click and scroll to the end of the image description, which is a pain if it's a particularly long description

3. if you've got more than one image, then the field for entering text for an image description is fucking tiny!!!!!! why!!!!!!!! (see image)

so to condense my suggestions into one holistic solution

how bout, you click the image to add a description, it opens the image up full res with a big honkin' old text box underneath. and if you change tab or whatever then it all stays there on screen exactly how you left it until you click OK

@envgen It is also kind of a pain in the ass on mobile, especially if you forget a word at the beginning and scroll back to put it in because the tiny bar doesn't quiiite scroll to the very end and you can't see much of the caption at once to check if you put all your words

@Murkrow @envgen I almost always add image descriptions! And I almost always toot from phone! And it's bad!!!!!!!!

(although: twitter mobile web app still can't add image descriptions... so it could always be worse)

@masklayer @envgen I only toot from phone and it's such a paaaiiinnn

There's also no way to view image captions so after I've written it I just have to remember what it was in case someone replies about it like Snapchat - one time someone said "that bottom symbol is X" and I was like "okay who asked you smartass???" until I remembered the night before I'd captioned it something vaguely like "[symbol]
[symbol] [symbol] and idk something I can't remember I'm tired"
