It seems #drag doesn’t have to be transphobic or misogynistic. This makes me very happy as I’ve always found drag performers very sexy. Gender bending is soooo... um.... #blushing #feels #transgender #feminism
Maybe I should go have a lie down...
@kellycrow Yeah, I’ve heard RuPaul is particularly awful. And I was interested to learn that a lot of trans women referred to themselves as drag queens in the stonewall days.
@Nerdcoresteve yeah trans women basically birthed modern drag in a way it hadn't been done before
@Nerdcoresteve
I used to hate drag, but now that I think about it, I'm more mad at a specific wave or mentality of drag that I associate with people like RuPaul. My brother and partner both had to like beg me to watch RuPauls Drag Race, and I finally appreciated it, but I don't appreciate Ru. They have some really great people that they brought on the show, including some really nice trans people. People who had to hide it during the competition, because Ru is transphobic.
@Mirzaba transphobic is a no good
@Nerdcoresteve hell lots of drag performers are trans as well, it's more of a performative exaggeration of gender stereotypes. IMO it's not so much the act of drag that is transphobic as the attitude of some of the toxic men who do it whose voices dominate the conversation.
