I guess people berating mobile games as "not real games" isn't a thing people do on Mastodon.

Is...is this heaven?

@Nezchan
All games are games. Judge each on quality and technical skill, accounting for limitations and purposes of the platform.

@TheDistinction @Nezchan I remember gaters trying to explain to me what constituted what a real game was...usually when bitching about Gone Home or something. How this became a thing of importance to them is a perplexing and pathetic mystery. Can I interact with it? Is it fun to me? It's a game!

@OldandConfused @Nezchan
Well I believe that 'walking simulators' like Gone Home etc are in the line between games and art. There are interactive art exhibits that are gamier games.

@TheDistinction @OldandConfused I see the gameplay element in games like Gone Home or Dear Esther isn't in the mechanics but in the player's head as they piece together the mystery of what's happening. Or in Gone Home's case the overall timeline of events to do with the uncle and your father.
