I was tempted to try out ADOM, but after reading up a bit about it I really don't want to any more.
I understand challenging games. What I don't understand is randomly unfair games. I had enough of that with ToME.
@Nezchan you can also cheap and copy your save file to circumvent permadeath if you are into that sort of thing. I created a bash alias to save/reload my games.
@Nezchan Have you played crawl (dcss)? It's...less randomly unfair. You can get unlucky, but after the early game, stupid deaths are mostly your fault.
@gcupc I have. My only real criticism of it is that your character is reaaaaaally tiny on the screen. Other than that, it's a joy to play.
@Nezchan I always play it with ascii, not tiles.
@gcupc Oog, tried playing tiles and the screen is TINY! Can't seem to resize it properly either.
@Nezchan I've played ADOM so much. But it kills you mercilessly.
But the joy of picking up a ton of shop items in a dungeon and then teleporting to the exit and quickly leaving, before the EXTREMELY powerful guards can get you is a rare thrill.
