which is not to say i recommend that anyone use it, but i do recommend the practice in itself. if rolling your own blog engine sounds like a waste of time (and fair enough!), i advocate barebones static site generators that rely on files. files are futureproof; files are low on attack surface; files work with my text editor and git.
i wouldn't say i love jekyll, personally, but it works. i hear decent things about hugo & ghost.
