CH4R0
My method when I'm stumped is to use guesses (and magick) to get a foothold, then prove it twice.
CH4R0
@PrincessOfCats that was one of it the problems with trying to build a "model" of a hacker, because basically they're more pit bull anything else. Refuse to surrender just because of something silly like failure.
CH4R0
@thegrugq @PrincessOfCats "Refuse to surrender just because of something silly like failure."
Or, you know... other obligations...
CH4R0
@thegrugq I think there are two types: intuitive and exhaustive. Both are dogged. Awoooooooooooooooooooooooook
CH4R0
The most intelligent man in the world can complete a task in one hour.
A persistent man can do it in one month. End results are the same.
Perseverance is another form of intelligence.
CH4R0
@xy @PrincessOfCats @thegrugq in a way, perseverance evolves intelligence. It may be more important than intelligence, because, intelligence people quit things, too.
CH4R0
@PrincessOfCats @xy @thegrugq this is something I think about a lot, especially now that I have a little one. How to teach him the difference between obsession and perseverance, motivation, and evaluating ROI. It's possibly the most important lesson humans learn for long term success.
CH4R0
@PrincessOfCats @xy @thegrugq @donb Invoke often eh? :)
CH4R0
@xy @PrincessOfCats @thegrugq I'd contend that the persistent one learned more in that time, having tried more things that didn't work. Intelligence starts you at a higher base point, but persistence provides more long-term potential.
CH4R0
@xy @PrincessOfCats @thegrugq Agree on this somewhat. IQ is first derivative of skill with respect to effort. Lower IQ can be compensated by more effort to a degree.
CH4R0
@HalvarFlake @thegrugq @PrincessOfCats @xy
As FX always says: "Stubbornness compensates for a lot of talent."
CH4R0
@PrincessOfCats that's one of the things worth mentioning about hacking actually. Patience and dogged "I will beat this" is the best mental model for a hacker. Sometimes you need to put something aside for a while but then you come back with fresh eyes and ideas and try again and again.
