@kylerankin When you see cheap electronics, realize that often the hardware cost is subsidized by spyware agreements and selling user data.

Kashmir Hill: "Google made the mistake of adopting the motto 'Don’t be evil' in a jab at competitors who exploited their users... [It has] demoted the phrase in its corporate code of conduct presumably because of how hard it is to live up to it." https://gizmodo.com/i-cut-google-out-of-my-life-it-screwed-up-everything-1830565500
This is the sort of thing that reminds me why the @Purism team has the right idea with hardware kill switches.
You can't broadcast voice/video if the wiring is physically disconnected.
Even though I've backed Planet Computers' Cosmo Communicator as my next phone (because I *really* need a physical keyboard), everything else about what Purism does is definitely the right idea.
Even System76, for laptops. I wish the two worked together better, but still.
our @diggity of @privacylab on Google surveillance: “Google’s the biggest threat in sheer size and the amount of data they have. And they’re really good at crunching that data...” #SurveillanceCapitalism https://gizmodo.com/i-cut-google-out-of-my-life-it-screwed-up-everything-1830565500

our CEO Todd Weaver contrasts Purism as a Social Purpose Corporation with Big Tech: "The unregulated tech industry means that maximizing shareholder value, by definition, means to exploit society; that's why Big Tech exploits society..." #WomenLeadRadio https://www.blogtalkradio.com/connected-women-of-influence/2019/01/11/what-is-a-social-purpose-company

@gnome: "We just landed the largest refactor to Builder since it’s inception. Somewhere around 100,000 lines of code... Not only does the refactor make things easier for us to maintain but it will make things easier for contributors to write new plugins." https://blogs.gnome.org/chergert/2019/01/17/builder-3-32-sightings/
