Ok, currently moving over to @chris for my mastodon account. Please follow that, my small number of followers!

Oh my god guys, I just noticed that if you set your toot to be unlisted instead of public, the button says TOOT instead of TOOT! (Note the !) mastodon.social/media/nkT8XJ8b mastodon.social/media/U9rWUIi7

"ahahahah breadknives aren't sharp"

*runs thumb across breadknife*

"ahh fuck!"

I swear to god i'm so dumb

@solnic I really need to get my head around ROM and dry-rb so I can steal the ideas for crystal-lang! I've been looking at and hearing about these libraries for a while but never got the time to play with them.

@Gargron

Sorry to ping you, but do you have any pointers on this? What i'd love is the handle chris@rx14.co.uk, but still be able to run a blog or something else on rx14.co.uk, with the mastodon web interface being on a subdomain or rx14.co.uk/mastodon/.

Any pointers?

Current feelings on Mastodon / the fediverse after a few days of almost constant usage:
- Following @rms is a new, fascinating experience.
- Loving the amount of toots and people who are talking. Way better than birdsite ever was from my perspective.
- Lack of brands and rt'ing bots is :ok_hand:
- Not going to lie, having a higher follower count than on the birdsite feels good. I'm horribly narcissistic like that.

One thing I would like to see on Mastodon is a way to migrate your account from one server to another. Maybe I am on social.tchncs.de now, but maybe I want to be on awoo.space. Later on, I might even have my own server. Being able to transfer is essential to owning an identity.

Ah, I love how people complain that they could be impersonated on a decentralized network.

your handle is not just @[username]

it's @[username]@[instance] so compare it to email. Share your link or your full handle, so people know it's you.

That's how it works. It's a feature.

BTW, is there any way to run RX14@rx14.co.uk as my mastodon handle, but have the web interface be something like social.rx14.co.uk?

the great thing about open source is that instead of screaming into the void and then receiving bad features you never asked for, everything is broken but you shrug it off because no one has any money anyways

I feel like writing my own gnusocial clone that communicates with twitter.

That's a terrible idea TBH, I have a massive list of backlog projects already.

I'll probably set up my own private-ish mastodon instance just for me on aww.moe... So you'll have to follow me there soon I guess?

The Mastodon/Twitter bridge seems to work for non-mastodon.social instances now. Woo! mastodon-bridge.herokuapp.com/

We need Mastodon to take off purely for the image of awkward newscasters doing stories about toots

There are NO checkmark verifications on this instance or any other. People just put emoji in their display names for a joke

If Mastodon is the Federation, does that make Twitter the Empire?

update: Admins can now easily close registrations with a custom message. In other news, I have closed registrations to mastodon.social for now ensure a quality of service for all existing ones, and to promote other federated nodes.

@quad I've replied to you but my shit isn't even showing up on my Home column. This shit can't scale.
