We need to learn how to value more than the fruit of a person's #labour if we want to make #progress . In #capitalist and right wing societies that leads to exploitation, but even in #socialist and left wing societies a lack of freedom to give expression to one's identity and to be valued for it regardless of one's "economic output" will lead to a disenfranchised, cynical, hopeless and apathic population. We need a new political paradigm to fix this. I can't do that alone. Please help.
This also means that we need to start valuing #technology that can help divorce economic progress from the efforts of individuals' labour, but that means we need to find a way to redistribute wealth equitably. #socialism and #communism have been tried and failed. We need to embrace that reality while continuing to search for something better. #ideology has failed. Now what?
Socialism and communism have not failed at redistributing wealth equitably. Communism has not been achieved in the modern world, and socialism has many examples of equitable wealth distribution, such as many Nordic countries (which aren't socialist, but incorporate elements of socialism in their capitalist economy (Social Democracy)), Cuba, Venezuela (prior to the economic crisis), and Bolivia.
@Radical_EgoCom "communism has not been achieved"
That is pretty much my definition of "failure".
Whatever we do to address our problems cannot be something that is always undermined simply because human nature won't cooperate.
@Radical_EgoCom Nordic Countries are a good example as to why purely ideological socialism isn't enough. On top of that, Norway has the luxury of sitting on an enormous store of natural resources that it, as opposed to many other places, has exploited carefully.
I would consider Cuba and Venezuela and the likes "failed states" but I accept that a lot of that is due to USA led sabotage.
Why are Nordic Countries "a good example as to why purely ideological socialism isn't enough?"
@Radical_EgoCom they combine some aspects of socialism with a form of capitalism that is fettered by regulations and laws to avoid their worst excesses.
I'm not suggesting throwing the "socialism" baby out with the bathwater. I always vote socialist because it's the best that's on offer. But I am hoping we can think of something even better.
Nordic Social Democracy still exploits workers through the extraction of surplus value from workers, which prevents workers from acquiring the full value of their labor, which naturally spawns economic inequality, poverty, etc. This will continue as long as the means of production are kept private, and no amount of regulations or laws will change that. The only thing that will change this is by making the means of production publicly owned, i.e., socialism.
@Radical_EgoCom Now this guy theorys ^
