One of my favorite all-time quotes from television is from the XMas episode of Rick and Morty where it starts raining blood and viscera from the sky and Jerry calms everybody down.

"It's okay, everybody. The TV said it's going to be okay."

"If you're not cynical, you're not paying attention".

Trying to anticipate the ways in which ruling elites will seize upon this crisis to further disempower the public. In some vain hope that we can effectively counter mobilize.

It's sad, but the complete lack of candor among our authorities really has rendered any even semi-plausible hypothesis of wrongdoing on their part completely credible. They themselves frequently resort to wild conspiracy theories.

Maybe the real point here is not the authenticity or falsehood of any one of these theories, but the total lack of any effective public oversight mechanism to check their power.

So what's the deal with all the leaks about civilian deaths under the US military's drone program? That's exactly what they're destroying Assange for right now, to prevent this kind of publication.

Maybe some kind of feud between civilian oversight and the military after the fracas over the Afghan pullout? Like Biden trying to give payback for their bitching back then? Really odd.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to understand that Apple, Google, or Amazon can simply _decide_ to remove access to anything you've "purchased", including many physical goods (if they are internet-connected and running proprietary software), and you have absolutely no recourse.

I think the sexiest thing that the US healthcare system has done is that they've created such a complex web of contractors and subcontractors involved in denying you healthcare that no individual group is ever fully at fault for killing you, meaning that the guilt is evenly distributed over a sprawling network of bureaucrats who can all consider themselves effectively blameless.

The cartoon series "Mighty Mike" is a capitalist recuperation of the latent Marxist themes of "Tom and Jerry". Unfortunately, aesthetically, it is also the superior franchise.

11 years ago today WikiLeaks published Collateral Murder. It was a defining moment in our understanding of the Iraq war.

The publisher, Julian Assange, faces a 175 year sentence for publishing evidence of such crimes, government abuses & corruption

US centrists insist both sides are wrong, then precede to side with a right wing status quo like that's taking the high road.

the fact that the US president orders assassinations of US citizens without trial or due process doesn't even pass for minor news/comment any longer:

Sen. Ron Johnson elicits an admission from FBI official that no firearms were recovered from Capitol on Jan 6, and no one has been charged with any firearm offenses. Odd that so few are curious about this given repeated declarations that what occurred was an "armed insurrection" #FBI

When Democrats actually want to do something - as opposed to pretending to want - they don't care in the slightest about legal constraints let alone parliamentarian niceties.

In 2011, Obama bombed Libya: not only without Congressional authorization, but after the House voted NO #Congress #Democrats #Greenwald #Libya #Obama #Parliament

Re They just showed you in Syria - yesterday! - that they don't care about legalities or anything when something is a priority: they just bomb even though many Dems say it's illegal.

Who would believe they sooo want to raise the minimum wage but must respect the parliamentarian? #Greenwald #Parliament #Syria
