@tas You make a good point. Given the highly decentralized nature of Mastodon instances, (many??) interesting conversations may be siloed, visible mainly to a small group in that niche site.

I think part of the problem is generalized vs specialized instances. The general ones have a firehose on the timeline while others that are specialized start looking like echo chambers.

Ideally there will be cross pollination of toots but that requires the web of follows to be build which can be tricky, slow and quite organic.
