I've just been informed that my department has been renamed from "IT" to "Tech Bollocks".

I think I'm getting my money's worth out of Crunchyroll

I had to block some external instances on Masto.host shared hosting.

Here is why and how that can be reverted: masto.host/i-had-to-block-some

This was a tricky decision but couldn't think of a better solution.

If you have any suggestions, please do let me know.

I've just discovered that our office has a machine that enables us to communicate to the 1990's -- kind of like the Phone Wave in Steins;Gate -- only instead of sending text messages, you have to feed sheets of paper through it and new messages arrive on sheets of paper.

They call it a 'Fax machine'.
Don't tell SERN, obvs.

While trying to import a PEM certificate into an application, I foolishly opened the unencrypted keyfile in notepad.

Notepad then crashed -- I've never seen that happen before -- and Windows immediately popped up "Reporting the problem to Microsoft", which I must assume includes the contents of the file I had opened.

So that certificate is now revoked and I still need to set this up but probably not using Windows.

Developer Tools Rage

I think one of my <sarcasm>favourite</sarcasm> features of Hyper-V is the default setting on new VMs that dynamically consume all available RAM on the host machine, followed by consuming all available disk IO and space, followed by crashing the host OS.

RT Today was a great day to be a Mob Psycho 100 Fan! Tag anyone who doesn't know the news!! 🔥 🥄 🔥

It seems that, my robot, @tooty is struggling at times.

Well, not struggling, just bouncing off the quota limits of web fetches, processor time, and data transfer for Google Apps Script.

I could mitigate most of this if URL Fetch supported HEAD requests, but I guess I'll have to re-implement on a real server, instead.

Google's 'dots don't count' in email addresses rule can be a pain. I recently got somebody else's email confirmation of a subscription to a fishing website, complete with their home address and t-shirt size.

I only have this person's postal address, so I ordered them a custom t-shirt printed with "I gave the wrong email address", gift-wrapped, with an explanatory message.

I hope they have a sense of humour. mastodon.social/media/emiPxLQi

Windows 10 complains and swears

I can't help but regret that I have not yet developed any special moves in real life.

I need an owl.

Just got booted from splatfest matches due to planned server maintenance.

I am disappointed that they would plan maintenance during a planned in game event.

Does anybody have a good method for triggering a mastodon toot from an IFTTT trigger?

I'm feeling a bit too lazy to make my own cross poster from a birdsite search.

If, like me, you are a UK subscriber to crunchyroll streaming anime service, and would like to be spammed with every new episode that is available in the UK, then you might like to follow my new spam bot @tooty

I'd like a Mastodon equivalent of my twitter bot (@crunchywatch_uk twitter.com/crunchywatch_uk) to follow, but I don't think everything it will post will quite be within the mastodon.social rules, so perhaps it needs it's own single-user instance...
