The emergence of heat and humidity too severe for human tolerance
Humans’ ability to efficiently shed heat has enabled us to range over every continent, but a wet-bulb temperature (TW) of 35°C marks our upper physiological limit, and much lower values have serious health and productivity impacts. Climate models project the first 35°C TW occurrences by the mid-21st century.
Is this a little uncomfortable for you, too? If so, that feeling is important. https://www.smbc-comics.com/comic/radical
An explainer about how hard it is to explain what could happen during the pandemic. We know it's bad and getting worse but we're still gathering the information needed to improve the models to figure out *how* bad and, more importantly, what strategies will help us minimize suffering and death. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/a-comic-strip-tour-of-the-wild-world-of-pandemic-modeling/
Friendly reminder: "X as a service" is just a misleading corporate euphemism for "pay forever for not owning it".
"Software as a service" actually means "pay forever for not owning the software".
"Games as a service" actually means "pay forever for not owning games".
"Infrastructure as a service" actually means "pay forever for not owning the hardware".
And so on.
There is no "cloud", it's just other people's computers
The student bowed.
"Master, I am sorry."
"Why were you absent yesterday?" the sword master asked.
"I don't know. I... simply could not get out of bed."
"If this happens again..."
"Allow yourself to stay in bed."
"A blunt sword can be honed. A broken one can not."

To sum up, real avenues exist to free your mind, find peace, and some sense of joy in this world. And it involves demolishing some mindsets, ideologies, and physical barricades, both within and around you.

An aside, from now on I'm going to respond to every yuppie yoga practicing gentrifier I run into with the question of whether they knew yoga was originally a political act.
Since these people hate politicizing anything - and refuse to acknowledge the inherent politics of everything - it'll really sour it for 'em.
Capitalism's subjects must continually find new fads to hid their alienation and dehumanization, and the previous fads that didn't work.
It's a sick cycle.
This is not to shit on everyone who happens to meditate or do yoga. It's the broader ideology behind it all. Petty little trinkets to satisfy your utter lack of joy in life. To hide the real culprit: capitalism, colonialism, consumerism, etc.
Astrology, yoga, and meditation become effectively no different from US evangelicalism, "self-help" marketing schemes, and the online entrepreneur community.
Some of the most vapid, ignorant people I've met are the ones whose lifestyles include astrology, yoga, meditation, and alternative medicine.
They get really mad when you discount their consumerist activities. But conveniently fail to realize the connection between wealth inequality and the pain all around them.
Yoga is no longer religious, or political (who knew yoga was originally a political outlet?). Astrology isn't a religious practice, and chakras and related hippie crap are just that; hippie crap.
Western capitalism with its consumerist lifestyles takes living things filled with meaning, strips the meaning out, and makes everyone less aware for it.
