Just been reminiscing in the office about our favourite potential global pandemics.

We've got SARS, bird flu, swine flu, foot & mouth, BSE/CJD - what did I miss? (lots of debate and googling about which, if any of those, were dupes).

The end of last night's UFC - quite the shitshow.

It's fascinating to watch though - they've leaned more towards WWE than boxing in building the brand and drama rather than sport and competition. I guess this is what happens when you don't have complete control like the WWE does.

American Vandal season 2 is great. I was wondering how they’d follow such a unique first season, but genuinely felt like they nailed it.

Tried watching the Conor McGregor press conference last night. Few observations:

1) The metamorphis is complete, he's an absolute caricature of himself.
2) The MMA press borders on sycophantic. He'll stutter out a hacky one-liner, and the birdsite goes apeshit for it.
3) I expect USADA has stopped testing for recreational drugs.

Been revisiting the films I’ve watched this year on Letterboxd, and it appears I’ve not been to the cinema once so far.

A pretty poor showing, given I “earn” a free trip per week through my life insurance.

Not only is the BBC responsible disclosure policy (bbc.com/backstage/security-dis) making our site more secure, it also gives me an excuse to jump in and unapologetically write code again.

Another racist spontaneously combusts from the sheer volatility of their ignorance.

Local fb group just had someone reply to some one whinging about dog poo on the estate blaming “dirty vile dog owners” with “not all dog owners”.

If I could boil down how silly prefixing absolutely anything with “not all” is, it’s that exchange.

If you don't describe yourself as "highly motivated" on your CV, do you even have a CV?

Great parkrun today. Must take more note of my Heaton PB next time, was only 7 seconds off it and very deliberately eased up on the final straight.

I've been looking for an accessible, online scrabble-like game for years, that works with VoiceOver on iOS and Talkback on Android. This seems to be the closest thing. My wife loves it, and I play vicariously through her, but would like to play myself. Unfortunately it's not even remotely accessible however.
Please, if you have the time, vote this idea up so it's taken more seriously by the developers. I would be grateful. Thank you.

It's been many years since I was "into" the post-rock thing (think 2000-ish Mogwai), but Deafheaven have got me on another serious kick. OCHL is a great album.

My podcast backlog is currently at 90 unlistened. I wonder how fast I can set Overcast's listening speed while still gaining any semblance of value?

New people of Mastodon:

Welcome! I'm happy you are here! Here are some tips for accessibility

You can add a description to an image you post by clicking on the image before you hit TOOT! Type in a brief description. It helps people who use screen readers to know what the image is.

When using a hashtag:

Not good: #hereismyhashtag

Good: #HereIsMyHashtag

Screen readers garble the first one, but can read the second one because of the capitalization.

I think my approach to mastodon is to put "original" content here, and only really respond to people/"like"/RT on the other site. Politics and BS aside, I just don't really like it there.

I'm bloody terrible at Slay The Spire. It's an awesome game though. Even when I lose, it feels "fair". That's rare in a deckbuilder.

Playing gnk at weekend, been set on Titan for a while (despite knowing that all Hayley builds wreck it at the minute), wasn’t going to netdeck runner, but my goodness is Dan D’s Val from worlds fun as hell to play. Prediction, I’ll come not quite last.
