❝I don’t believe our species can survive unless we fix this (social media).
We cannot have a society in which, if two people wish to communicate, the only way that can happen is if it’s financed by a third person who wishes to manipulate them.❞
— Jaron Lanier

"content ID will fix the problem of copyright online" except it's an absolute clusterfuck of false claims, bad tech, and censorship-lite... Yeah, that new EU directive is going be just great for music online...

Y'all know I make lots and lots of lovely music right?

Charging £8 an album for it made no sense, but I couldn't afford to keep doing it on Spotify's meagre gruel, so I set up a subscription via (I was fortunate to be one of the first three artists who got to trial the subscription thing, back in 2014.)

The gist of it is loads of music for not much money. Plus video and the occasional eBook :)

Check it out here: stevelawson.bandcamp.com/subscribe xxx

@grainloom There's the option for that already - every track has a lyric field so you can add them to the metadata (so they show up on your phone if you use an app that makes that possible) and you can bundle PDFs with any release on there. My stuff's all instrumental, so the PDF is sleevenotes and pics, but I always include one :)

With Bryan Corbett at Tower Of Song in Birmingham. This was a fun gig, last November. I'm back at the same venue in a couple of weeks time, and would love to see some MastoPeople there if any of y'all live nearby :)

and look! We're really smiley! It'll be a fun gig, I promise :D

I've got a v. exciting gig coming up, with saxophonist Pete Fraser. We did an album together a couple of years ago, but he lives in Sweden so we never get to play! A date came up, and we're doing a duo show in on Nov 25th - music.stevelawson.net/merch/st - you can hear the album we did together here: music.stevelawson.net/album/in

No, YOU'RE learning Konnakkol on YouTube when you should be doing PhD research

Preacher-Steve Lawson (one of the other internet Steve Lawsons you'll stumble on if you ever find yourself in the position of having to Google my name) has a popular sermon on YouTube called 'The Great White Throne Of Judgement', which has to be greatest euphemism for a really bad hangover that I've ever heard.

I'm pretty sure that's not what he's talking about, TBF...

@matthew we've got it in our diary! Really hoping to make it :)

@daibarnes fortunately, the boiler is going strong, it's just that some dickhead ripped the badge off the front and it has left three holes in it that go right through into where the heat is. So that just needs replacing (either the badge or the cover) - the engineer said he has exactly the same boiler and it's a good one :)

Well, that was quite a morning. A routine annual gas check resulted in our cooker, boiler and gas meter being declared unsafe and needing to be fixed. Gas cut off for now. Seems dudes who've done the check for the last few years were incredibly cavalier with what they considered OK... So, good news is we won't die. Downside is we're living on toasted sandwiches for a few days :)

@conniptions I don't know the Milligan-Sellers story, though I do know one about my grandad working for a building firm who were contracted by either Spike or Harry Secombe to brick up the other one's door while he was on holiday (then remove it), and in retaliation they were hired to remove the roof off the other one's house and replace it with a tarp (and then put it back, obv) - I need to check and see if that's been written up anywhere! :)

from Twitter user twitter.com/iris__ks - "when i feel bad about my social skills i remind myself how one time rachmaninoff decided he was gonna be pals with stravinsky (who'd casually mentioned he liked honey) so he showed up at his house in the middle of the night with an enormous jar of honey and no explanation" :D

@flavigula @reto @ics if you do get noise on it, it's worth trying a few different USB cables - the shielding and grounding is different on many of them... also worth unplugging your laptop from the mains to see if it's a grounding issue... Of course, it could just be a really-cheap-gear issue, in which case, check out the Akon noise reduction plugins... if the background noise is pretty consistent, you should be able to remove it completely without any trouble! :)

Our amazing 82 year old neighbour just came round to return a blanket that'd blown off our line over her's. Says she's got a twisted knee.

"how did you do that?" asks me.

"playing football" she says!

What a hero. ❤️❤️⚽⚽

@Doctor_J_ there are songs in there that I remember super-fondly because of the time, and I dig Nikita cos it's got the great Nik Kershaw on guitar :)
