@Spacedrake but for real, the coins in JW are the rare fictional instance of a pre-modern money - a money that symbolizes *non specified* quantity of debt (as opposed to a specified quantity). They are simply an "I owe you one" with only a tacit, communally understood sense of why you would use 2 instead of 1.

Which makes the existence of mints that have standardization quite odd. Even odder, the assassination are sold in terms of USD, which make some sense but there's no on-screen presentation of the coins being exchanged for USD. Does it happen, or is it deeply taboo?
