thinking of switching instances but I don't know where I'd go
I think I’m going to move to @SpindleyQ@gamemaking.social but I’m having trouble making the migration functionality actually work
I guess it doesn’t hurt to leave this account up for now.
@SpindleyQ i couldn't decide when my last instance closed so i just gave up. no general instances have urls i like :(
uh, my last personal account, not this one obvs.
you could also just make one. they seem like a pain to run, but mastohost is only 5€ a month if it's a small instance.
@blueberrysoft tbh I'd probably move to gamemaking.social except I don't want to put any pressure on you to keep it up if you're getting tired of running it
I'm definitely tempted to self-host, but I wonder if there are noticable UX downsides to having a single-user instance. I don't really use the local / federated timelines but people occasionally find me through them
@SpindleyQ when i was on makestuff.club there definitely was that kinda ux downside. it was only mitigated by me having accounts other places.
don't worry about gm.s going anywhere! that was just me being in a bad mood and probably projecting my self-criticisms.
very good instance imo you should join. we already have the emoji
@zens I have not! I set up an alias on gamemaking.social but mastodon.social does not seem to recognize it.
@SpindleyQ yeah. some people report that their migration is really smooth. mine wasn’t so much. i actually kind of regret running the migration because i am not sure i wanted to keep *all* my followers
@SpindleyQ Can't see anything blocking things on this end, or a backlog of tasks on the server or anything. Might have to contact Gargron.
Coincidentally there are a few other people having trouble with account migration on the #MastoAdmin tag, though I can't tell if they're doing an actual migration, or just importing a list of followers/ing. Indications there are that sometimes it just takes a while. Still, it's already been a while.
