Dell Flying to 5G Cloud on AT&T-Led ‘Airship:’ Dell is working with AT&T to bring hardware automation to the Airship open source cloud provisioning project. By me on https://www.lightreading.com/carrier-sdn/sdn-technology/dell-flying-to-5g-cloud-on-atandt-led-airship-/d/d-id/753487?_mc=RSS_LR_EDT
Excuse me how does a company lose $5,200 for every customer that they have...
- So if you've read OcapPub, you'll see that I *do* think that the anti-abuse tools in the fediverse are broken and will be increasingly so as the network expands
- They're also incompatible with moving towards a more self-hosted and E2E encrypted future, and ultimately result in centralization
- But they're also all people have, at present, so disabling them is... not good
(... more coming ...)
Terminating Service for 8Chan
We need something like this for the open Social Web. This is EXACTLY what I was thinking of a few months back.
https://www.perspectiveapi.com something like this but for and by the commons
yes, it's built by Google.
ageism but also limits to how much we can, and should, trust our senses
But I also bring this up for another reason (which I have alluded to in the OcapPub document): filtering based on content assumes that we have a good way to identify content. Even humans are entering into an area where identifying reality is difficult based on our senses; computers will probably do worse.
Also significant implications for tracking provenance of "truth". Seeing is no longer believing.

We are almost at 10% of our Patreon goal to sustain full time development!
Every dollar helps.
People want a "which replies were authorized" feature for ActivityPub for cooperatively only showing the replies a user signed off on (note: we can't block uncooperative display of "unauthorized replies"), and also listing maybe those replies in a easy-to-access "replies" collection.
What if each Note had a "replyHere" type property? Except: it's sealed. Only the people you intentionally gave an unsealer can access it.
I'm incredibly happy to finally be able to talk about this wild thing I've been apart of building for 4 years!
As many people know, right now my main source of funding is the Samsung Stack Zero grant I got to fund my work on Spritely. (Thank you again to the Samsung Stack Zero team for having faith in me!)
Some people have asked: what's your funding plan once that grant runs out? I don't have one other than the Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/cwebber
I have a buffer, but I've been burning it for some time; it's not sustainable. I do know the work I'm doing now is the most important work I *can* be doing.
Announcing ActivityPub Conf 2019! September 7th & 8th in Prague, immediately following Rebooting Web of Trust. https://dustycloud.org/blog/activitypub-conf-2019/
Space is limited, see post for details. We are also soliciting talks.
Hope to see you there!
I've finished writing part 1 of "OcapPub: Towards networks of consent", which is to say the "Conceptual Overview" section https://gitlab.com/spritely/ocappub/blob/master/README.org
There's a lot there already, and we haven't even gotten to Part 2, the "How to Build It" section yet. I'll begin work on that tomorrow.
What's here already is more or less an explanation of *why* OcapPub is taking the particular direction it is taking, and why other approaches run into serious problems.
Always on the lookout for bright ideas & bright people
