The best thing about Mastodon right now is the incredibly indie slant to the creators who've migrated here. Queer folks, folks of color, and women creating and telling their own stories in a space unencumbered by industry gatekeeping sentiments? This is great.
@Trungles god i noticed the same thing πππ π
@googie It's the beeesssst
@Trungles It's a really great environment right now, yeeees. I'm so excited to get to know more people and see their work!
@Trungles yah really it's fantastic. Like most of my fav folks went here.
@Trungles Not to mention, respect for others is baked right into the code with content warnings, ability to mute conversations, more levels of privacy on posts, ability to add alt text on images easily, etc. And that's even before you get to the instance's code of conduct.
@Trungles I was thinking about something related to this from another angle yesterday - wondering when news and pop culture sites would go all-in on Mastodon. Like that might be great in terms of making it a real Twitter alternative. But it would def change the current real-human-beings-talking vibe the site has now.
@gregpak yeah that would definitely change the landscape a bit. I wonder if the self-selection and more casual walking-down-the-street vibe of a local timeline versus the more intimate home timeline would affect that in any way.
@gregpak it would definitely retract from it, and I also think it would be weird with all the instances and their intersection. Would there be need for a new instance dedicated to news, and would that cancel the immediacy that news sites on social media creates? mastodon is a really interesting experiment on the way we think about social media
@Trungles
@Trungles yaaaasssss! nazi-free!
@Trungles Another new social network, Vero, is sort of a hybrid between Twitter and IG with a great looking interface but isnt growing very fast.
@Trungles I've found so many new people I would have never ran into otherwise. This site is great!
@Trungles Here and queer, ready to represent π
