"With streaming services there's no reason to pira-"
Content that can easily be removed by any contract changes
Not being able to offically know which content is available before subscribing
Only on supported devices/OSs/browsers
@Waces Who the heck does even do that argument?
@Genstar "[blah blah blah] with streaming services getting movies/shows legally is easier than torrenting [blah blah blah] people generally pretty much prefer paying <price> a month than risk getting viruses [blah blah blah]"
a lot of people actually
@Genstar I don't disagree with it - give me a fair priced service that I can watch anything, old and new, without limitations or strings attached and can save stuff locally and it would be a good investment - but it's not reality, because companies love being greedy
@Waces with a seedbox, there's no reason to subscribe to any streaming convent services
@Waces $20 a month for Netflix, Hulu, and whatever the fuck else
Wake me when Nextflix/Hulu/whomever picks up Kamen Rider and Game Center CX
@Waces and also, pretty much every tv company out there is starting or trying to start their own streaming service, producing originals & making people subscribe even more. We already know the answer to this problem 😉
@Waces yup. That's why I screengrab and save good stuff.
@alcinnz even better: Putting them on your "to watch" list and they get removed before you can watch/download them without notice -.-
@Waces used to be when Netflix turned up people felt less of a need to pirate
then Amazon made their own clubhouse
then HBO did
now even Disney is getting in on it
and now, having successfully fragmented the ecosystem more than ever, it's no wonder people turn back to piracy instead of paying $500/yr
@Waces sometimes I legitimately just want to be a dick to the people selling it
@Waces Also Region Locking! Ops You have already mentioned it hah!
@Waces well put
@Waces Can't forget the main reason to pirate: Legitimately cannot afford streaming services
I will add a few...
* Blocked by Gov <- If you are in China
* No / Slow Internet
* Unsupported payment method
@Waces emojis are streamed. I pick an emoji, it appears a certain way - until is it changed by iOS. For example, the ‘pistol’ emoji now appears as a squirt gun toy. Past discussions for & against firearm ownership are retroactively changed, now appear to be discussions about toys. This is one example why file ownership is better than file streaming. Own the file, own the meaning. Stream the file, you get what you get.
The Church of the SubGenius is a DIY cult.
@Waces content periodically gets removed from streaming services
@Waces accessibility. The Terminator 2 remaster on Amazon Prime has no subtitles at all.
@Waces I keep saying this: let me just buy a damn copy, DRM free, and preferably not in a box of air and plastic.
Can I add something?
Friend: I have to wait until January to watch this on Disney+ because it's still on Netflix until then
Me: It's on Torrent+ right meow.
